Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Whole Board ("we", "us"). By creating an account or taking a test, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

1. What Whole Board is

Whole Board is an online cognitive testing platform. It measures abilities like reasoning, memory and processing speed using standardized task types, and reports scores on the IQ scale. Scores are estimates for self-insight, entertainment and friendly competition. Whole Board is not a medical, psychological, educational or employment assessment, and its results shouldn't be used for diagnosis, school placement, hiring or any other official decision.

2. Human-only use

Whole Board is designed to be taken only by humans, without assistance. When you take a test, you agree to:

  • answer using only your own thinking, with no AI tools, chatbots, search engines, calculators, notes or help from other people;
  • not use bots, scripts, automated browsers, extensions or any software that reads, solves or answers questions;
  • not take tests for another person, or let anyone take tests on your account;
  • not try to get around our timers, question generation, scoring or integrity checks.

Full details are on the Fair Play page, which is part of these terms.

3. Integrity checks

To keep results fair, we collect information about how each test is taken: start and end times recorded by our server, time spent on each question, whether the test tab lost focus and for how long, copy attempts, and whether your browser reports being automated. We use this only to verify attempts, keep leaderboards fair and improve scoring. Attempts that fail these checks are kept in your history but excluded from leaderboards and your overall score. We may review, unrank or remove any score we reasonably believe wasn't earned fairly.

3a. Interrupted attempts

Tests can't be paused or restarted. Once you press Begin, closing the tab, reloading the page, or leaving and not returning ends the attempt, and the site warns you before this happens. We automatically restore one interrupted attempt per account every 30 days: a free attempt won't count against your free ranked attempt, and a paid practice attempt gets its credit back. Interruptions beyond that aren't refunded.

3b. Accessibility

Some categories offer an audio mode that reads questions aloud and adds listening time. Audio mode is meant for players who need it. Using it to gain extra time is a fair play violation.

4. Accounts

  • You need an account to take tests. Keep your login secure. You're responsible for activity on your account.
  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you're under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission. Purchases are only available to players 18 and over.
  • Usernames appear publicly on leaderboards, profiles and matches. Don't choose one that's offensive, impersonates someone, or contains personal information. We may change or remove usernames that break this rule.

4a. Ranked play and ID verification

  • The War of Minds boards are for players who are 18 or older, live in the United States, and have passed an ID check. Players 13–17 and players outside the US can take every test and play private matches, but don't appear on ranked boards.
  • Getting ranked takes a one-time Ranked pass ($2.99 plus any applicable tax) and an ID check run by Stripe Identity: a photo of a government ID plus a selfie. The pass covers the cost of the check; anything left over goes toward improving Whole Board.
  • Squads, the ranked team mode for the bonus games, takes a Squads pass ($2.99 plus any applicable tax) for one season, ending December 31. It is for players 18 and over and has nothing to do with IQ scores or War of Minds ranks. A squad's rating comes only from the server-checked runs of its players.
  • Supporter is an optional subscription ($2.33 a month or $19.99 a year, plus any applicable tax, renewing each month or year until you cancel). The Ranked pass + Supporter bundle ($4.99) includes the first month, then renews at $2.33 a month for players 18 and over. It gives cosmetic perks only (a badge, a profile frame and early news) and never affects scores, ranks, boards or invitations. You can cancel any time from your dashboard; perks last until the end of the month you paid for.
  • An adult can gift Supporter months to another player with that player's gift code (one payment, never renews). Gifts for a player under 18 must come from their parent or guardian. Players under 18 can't buy anything themselves.
  • Badges like Ambassador, Spotter, Builder and Messenger are earned by helping, never bought, and never affect scores or rank. Invites only count when the invited friend finishes a test; fake or duplicate accounts are removed.
  • If the check shows you're under 18, we refund the pass automatically. If the check fails or can't be completed, you can try again. If you never complete it, the pass can be refunded on request within 30 days of purchase.
  • One person, one ranked account. An identity that's already verified on another account can't be used again. Ranking on someone else's ID, or letting someone use yours, gets both accounts removed from the boards.
  • Your home board (state, city and optional neighborhood) must be where you actually live. After you're verified you can change it once per season. We may ask you to confirm your location if we see signs it's wrong.
  • Boards come in three time frames: weekly (Monday to Sunday), monthly, and the season (January 1 to December 31), all Eastern Time. Each updates live, and when it ends its final top 3 players and places are saved in the Hall of Fame and the board starts fresh. Final season results are locked when the season ends. Only free, valid, solo attempts taken after verification count.
  • A place (neighborhood, city or state) is scored by the average of its 10 best verified players and needs at least 5 to appear.

4b. Profiles, posts and private matches

  • Players 18 and over get a public profile and can post short updates. Don't post hate, harassment, sexual content, personal information about anyone, links, or anything illegal. We may hide or remove posts and suspend posting, and we hide a post automatically once several players report it.
  • Profiles of players under 18 are private, and they can't post.
  • Private matches use the same questions for everyone in the room, are never ranked, and don't count toward norms. The Fair Play rules still apply.

5. Retakes and payments

  • Your first attempt in each category is free, and you get one free retake per category every 7 days. These are your ranked attempts.
  • Practice retakes cost $0.99 each (plus any applicable tax). They're added to your history and analytics but don't affect your rank or overall score.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
  • A retake credit is used when you start a practice retake, whether or not you finish it, except as described under "Interrupted attempts". Credits have no cash value, can't be transferred, and are non-refundable except as described in our Refund policy or where required by law. If a technical problem on our side ruins an attempt, contact us and we'll restore the credit.
  • We may change prices or free-retake rules in the future. Changes won't affect credits you've already bought.

6. Scores and leaderboards

Scores are calculated from norms that we update as more people take the tests, so a score may shift slightly over time. Leaderboard positions aren't guaranteed and can change as scores are recalibrated or attempts are reviewed. We may reset leaderboards, for example at the start of a new season, with notice on the site.

7. Acceptable use

Don't attack, overload, scrape or reverse-engineer the site, harvest other users' information, or use Whole Board to break any law. Don't copy, republish or sell our questions, tests or content.

8. Enforcement

If you break these terms, we may unrank attempts, remove you from leaderboards, suspend or delete your account, and cancel unused credits without refund. Where we can, we'll tell you why.

9. Privacy

How we collect and use your information is explained in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.

10. Disclaimers

Whole Board is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but we don't guarantee that scores are error-free, that the site will always work, or that results match any other test. To the fullest extent allowed by law, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. If we make a significant change, we'll post it on the site before it takes effect. Continuing to use Whole Board after that means you accept the new terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

13. Contact

Questions, appeals of an unranked attempt, refunds or data requests: ecomwithsamuel@gmail.com. Refunds are explained in our Refund policy. Whole Board is operated by Whole Board.
